I've got a doctor's appt tomorrow but its my general physician, still need the referal. I'm just wondering if anyone here had back problems, what sort of effect it had on your training, and the eventual result of your treatment including the therapy used i.e. phsyio or surgery.

I think you're going to have to be more specific. Is it muscular or skeletal?

Don't know yet....praying its not skeletal but if it was skeletal I would think I'd be in excruciating pain right? Either way, skeletal or not, still looking for people's experiences.

As Krista said, most LBP injuries resolve themselves, pretty much regardless of intervention. This means that surgery comes long after all other possibilities are exhausted (and multiple doctors' opinions are considered).

In the meantime, do what you can to keep active.

I have that too. It's probably a tendon snapping into its groove. I just avoid activities that make it happen (like 2/3 of all ab exercises).

I herniated a disc about 6-7 years ago....Pretty badly. The doc gave me the choice of 'immediate relief' via surgery or just to rehab myself slowly. I chose the later as I have had friends that have had several types of back surgeries and they complain 'they are never quite the same'. I spent about 1 month on my back, 1 month walking, then slowly started incorperating weights back into my routine. There are several exercises that still 'tweak' it a bit so I remain cautious of those. I do incorperate core strengthening and compound type exercises in my program along with some isolation stuff. Worked well for me.

Raises hand and does Horshack impersonation 'Oooh! Oooh!!!!'

I did an injury to my low back in 1995 that I'm still dealing with. I had to throw away a deadlift of 450#+ and didn't do it fast enough. I felt the twist and crack in my low back, and that was all she wrote. In addition, I'm not sure if it's that particular incident, or if I sat down on a tabletop jump once really hard, but subsequent X-rays of my L4-L5 show a starburst pattern atop the L5 vertebrae. Meaning, at some time, I cracked or crushed the bone in my vertebrae. I have on and off issues with my low back, and basically it's meant that I've had to make modifications to my training, i.e. I don't squat really hweavy anymore, nor have I been able to pull anything over 350# in a long time. I've utilized reverse hypers to help stabilize the low back, and I just do my best to be spot on with form whenever posible.

Awhile back I had borderline chronic low back pain that I found out (throuch research and input from members of this group) was due to weak abs and over-exaggerating my low back arch when squatting and dling. Now that I've been doing heavy ab work at least 2x a week and tweaked my form a bit, I haven't had a hint of pain. For whatever that's worth.
