THe HOllywood Y is supposed to be good. They had a fire there a couple of years back but it's been rebuilt. I went to the one in Burbank for half a second but they only had their WT rooms open for part of the day. It was a few years back, so it might have changed by now. However, it wasn't cheaper than other gyms - it still ran me something like $40-$50/month.

I happened to find a website with YMCA reviews http://pub89.ezboard.com/bymcafitnessreviews yesterday. Not much info yet. The person that started it said something about the Downtown L.A. being awesome. I'll have to check it out. She(or he??) said that the Hollywood one is nicer than most but the downtown one is far better than anything she's seen before.
