IMO it is a great time to manipulate your Caloric expendature. For instance when I'm working on losing weight I try to time it so that what I have eaten is mostly gone by time I go to bed. I tend to lose weight very well doing this. From what I hear it is also a great time to manipulate your Calories when your trying to gain weight. I'm still working on getting that right.

I suspect the time of day has little or nothing to do with it, just that 'not eating for several hours before bed' means 'eliminate the food that otherwise would have been eaten then' rather than 'eat it earlier'.

A bunch of casein before bedtime might help.
