I've been told that standard crunches are not effective at working the abs. Is there anything I can do at home (no gym equipment) to work my abs?

Weighted crunches. Put a dumbell on your chest (I use 45lbs on a decline, but you can start with 20) and sit up (or crunch).

Make one.

A couple of cinder blocks and a good quality 2 x 12.

Pushups are pretty good, as are bench press, shoulder press, deadlift, biceps curls, and french press.

Seriously.

I'm real familiar with human anatomy, but I do not recall where the methinks are located on the chest.

And aren't you supposed to be in surgery?
