Ive never lifted weights before in my life.... want to start soon

Im 45 yr old male....sedentary life style.

Ive tried exercising at noon (to little time)....and after work (too tired).

Just wondered how many lift weights RIGHT out of bed.... first thing in AM? Is this a good or bad idea?

I think lifting in the morning is the best thing for me, not sure how your body will take it. It gives me a fresh start for the day, wakes me up and relaxes me. Try it out and see what you think, if it is the best time for you to go to the gym then go in the morning!

Happy lifting, Keran

4ax.com:

I lift at 5:30AM. I don't like getting up at that time, not being a morning person, but with 4 kids if you want any personal time you pretty much have to use the mornings. I think if it works for you, lifting first thing is fine.

Even though I can rarely do it that early, working out int he morning is the best time for me personally. I always feel more energized for work and in general my mood is more up. I just have to get up too ridiculously early these days to leave an extra hour for working out. as long as you warm up a bit a stretch before you lift in the morning, you'll be fine, but make sure you get your blood flowing and your muscles warm before you go ahead.

I lift in the morning mainly because it fits my schedule better and is nice to get it done so I can get on with other things. Until I got laid off a few months ago, I would go straight from bed to my garage to lift at about 5:15 am. Now I take a little more time getting there, but still do it before anything else. Whenever it works for you will be fine. Just try it and see.

If I'm not sleeping 10+ hours I'm a zombie until about 4:00pm. I do not want to get out of bed let alone life. Usually I do it after 4:00pm when I have more energy. Mostly during workdays it is about 6:30 or 7:00pm. I usually eat some kind of meal with lots of solid protein and some slow release carbs, wait an hour and have some whey protein and OJ, lift 15 - 30 minutes later then have more whey protein and OJ. Then go to bed shortly after. During the weekends sometimes I wait another hour and have another solid protein meal.

I'm 48, been lifting regularly since 1998 and the ONLY time I've found I can be consistent is in the morning. Stagger out of bed, throw on stank sweats, chug coffee, chug mega-shake, drive to gym, take the pain, shower, and voila, I'm a happy, exercised camper.

I'd hate to be the guy after or next to you at the gym.

Just kidding, of course, but the thought of stank sweats and coffee breath...ewww.

As for me, I do it whenever my schedule permits. I go to the gym every day, but usually at different times as I run my own business and have to work around that.
