Has it ever been proven, in an actual scientifically controlled study ( please quote it ), that eating a diet higher in protein sustains or preserves more muscle during weight loss?
Would a diet balanced between carbs, fats, and protein of the exact same calorie level maintain just the same amount of muscle, as long as there were 'adequate' levels of protein? Not sure what adequate is, probably different for each person.
I'm not against eating a weight-loss diet where 50% of the calories are from protein sources, in fact, I'm doing it now. But, I just never have seen it actually proven that it really helps, or is it just conventional wisdom?
