I have a serious quarrel with the quest for the 6 pack abs.
Not that I don’t thing having a strong abdomen is important. I do.
Not that I wouldn’t be happy to have a tightly packed tummy again. I would. (I never had a six pack but it definitely was a lot flatter than it is in the present)
My quibble with the quest for a 6 pack ab is the fact that for one - you have to spend a whole lot of time and energy to get that sort after look, when in reality, it is a frivolous goal to have.
Much better, if you ask me,( and you do because you are here reading ;-)) to aim for allover strength, or for strong core muscles, or for better support for your ailing back…
In short, what I am saying is that one of the not so good parts of our otherwise lovely society, is that we are kinda superficial, to say the least, and sometimes that leads us away from the places we should be aiming for, in order to be happier and healthier.
Not that having a 6 pack is a bad thing - not at all - the more the merrier, but it should be a by product of getting fit and staying there.
Anyway, I don’t suppose that I have convinced everyone.
Macdaddy from Get Fit Slowly wrote a post all about getting a six pack, in which the bottom line is - without overall strength, cardio, weight loss - forget it!
