Different kettle of fish altogether, I would reckon. Different level of hypoxia, different type (kind of), different conditions (I believe they don't even have to be exercising for the possible adaptation

Originally the idea was to have the athletes train at altitude. Problem was that their intensity would suffer so much that they'd end up losing fitness.
the solution was to live high (or in one of the tents) and train low (to maintain intensity).
I suppose the group to look at would be the competition depth divers who hold for many minutes (like 6-7 I think), see if they've undergone any adaptations to that type of training.
