Hi, I've never tried to work out, but now I have a bit of motivation so I decided 'what the heck.' I'm 19, 180lbs, 6', and a medium build. My goal is to become cut enough to draw some attention but I would never want to be a Lou Ferigno(sp). I've noticed a healthy layer of insulation around my midsection (I at one time had definition in the upper region of my abs, but not anymore) and my pecks obvously need a lot of work (they aren't full right below my shoulders). So could anyone help me out with what exercises I should do, results I should expect, and perhaps a diet? I started exercising Sunday.
I did:
trembling and I had a really hard time getting the weights up) Lifting up down on my toes (don't know what to call it, but it works the calves): 3sets x 15reps with two 10lbs weights (either hand) and bar Crunches: 1set x 20reps, 2sets x 15reps (holding last crunch)
bent my elbow and lifted from arms perpendicular to the floor to arms parallel with palms facing the ground.
I am noticing a lot of burn in my upper body (right above my elbows, pecks, shoulders), but nothing in my legs or stomach. Thanks for any help or plans you guys have.
Monday: Jog .5 mile Brisk walk 1 mile (stopped jogging and started walking)
burn on third set) Ab workout from aerobics video (approx 10 mins)
Brandon
PS How long should I exercise before I see any real results. Keep in mind that I will work hard, as May and June are really what I'm working for, but I plan to continue the excercises.

You want to lose fat.
Thus, you must diet.
If you don't diet, you won't lose fat.
As the diet is the most important thing in losing fat, and you did not mention it once, your priorities are messed up. Too much emphasis on training, not enough on diet.
Go research diets and come back with questions.

Yup, yup, yup. This is not to say you shouldn't train, it's just to say that, at the beginning, almost any training will do but you need to eat less to see what muscles you've got.

I dig. I am doing some research now, but I'm not sure about ratios of hype to results. I'm thinking of going on the 'No processed sugar' thing because my neurologist reccommended it for my familial tremors and he said that would make me lose weight too.

Whole, real foods are good, low carbs and minimal refined carbs are good. Lots of meat, fish, fresh fruits and veggies, lay off the bread, croissant, cake, and the like, and you should feel better and maybe drop some weight, too.
Best of luck with it all.
