Any suggestions???? I am trying to get back into lifting, just to stay fit, but I am having trouble finding time. I plan to work out three days a week for about 1 hour. My problem is I can never get everything done in 1 hour. I am also trying to shed about 20-25 unwanted pounds with my work out. I am doing three sets for each exercise that I do and I am doing about 10 reps every set. I am working all the major muscles, chest, back, triceps, biceps, shoulders, and legs. I am waiting about a minute between sets. By the time I do all of this and then try to get some sit ups in and some cardio I am looking at an hour and a half. Am I doing to much to stay fit? Any ideas how I could change this workout to help me shed some pounds and get it done in an hour or less? If you want you can reply directly to me at

Do fewer exercises and do cardio on a different day. A 10 rep set should take less than 1 minute to complete, and with a 1 minute rest between sets, one exercise should only take 5 minutes to complete. With a 5 to 10 minute warm up and a 5 to 10 minute stretch or cool down at the end, you still have at least 40 minutes to lift, which is 8 exercises. That's plenty of work and plenty of time, imo.

It sounds like you're doing too many exercises x sets. If you really MUST do cardio in the same workout, aim for a 40-minute weights workout and 20 minutes of cardio.

If you look at the routine I recommended under the subject 'Adding deadlifts to routine', you'll see workouts that can be completed in well under an hour. Now, this is a split routine, and if you're just getting back into weights you might be better off with a whole-body routine.

You might take a look at the routines at Krista's site,
