i'm a 55 yr old male, 6', 235#[i've done a lot of weight training over the years so i've a lot of muscle mass],been running 40 yrs,run a cou[ple of marathons, resting pulse of 40. this new gym i started going to has an abdominal crunch machine, the kind w/the 2 handles behind your head and leg rests. you can load this to reduce or increase resistance. anyway i started using this about a month ago and have worked up to 50 crunches. when i get to about 25 i can feel my face warming up and when i get to 50 it's burning but my abs while tight still could crank out a few more reps. after doing this the other day i got a major nose bleed. i sometime get nosebleeds because of low humidity but they're pretty sporadic. am i doing something wrong w/this machine. it's pretty hard to breathe when contracting your abs. any thoughts? my b/p this am was 128/74 altho sometimes it'll go up to around 140/,been running 40 yrs,run a cou[ple of marathons, resting pulse of 40. this new gym i started going to has an abdominal crunch machine, the kind w/the 2 handles behind your head and leg rests. you can load this to reduce or increase resistance. anyway i started using this about a month ago and have worked up to 50 crunches. when i get to about 25 i can feel my face warming up and when i get to 50 it's burning but my abs while tight still could crank out a few more reps. after doing this the other day i got a major nose bleed. i sometime get nosebleeds because of low humidity but they're pretty sporadic. am i doing something wrong w/this machine. it's pretty hard to breathe when contracting your abs. any thoughts? my b/p this am was 128/74 altho sometimes it'll go up to around 140/90 if i'm stressed. thanx, rick

There is no reason to do that many reps. Increase the weight so you can get no more than 8-10 reps, do 3-4 sets, and you're done. Abs should be trained like any other muscle.
