OT: Self Hating Westerners

The West IS going to fall, eventually. That's what happens to societies. Happened to Rome, Greece, Portugal, Spain. It's just a matter of when.

We have a lot more infrastructure now (and that's really understating it). More difficult to topple.

Only thing that I could see that would lead to the fall of the West would be some doomsday virus (ala 'The Stand' or something similar) or a nuclear war.

Other than that...

What exactly is the West? If the West is defined as the United States, then it's not difficult to say it will go down eventually. Since our manufacturing base is rapidly heading offshore, and our national debt shows no signs of shrinking, AND the Euro may well become the standard currency of international trade, it's entirely possible that the US will one day not be the most dominant nation on Earth. The 21st century may well be the century of the Chinese. Just my humble opinion, however.

I agree, sort of. I think at this point in history it'll be more of a merger than collapse. Something like the 'federation of planets', only smaller. The euro-dollar began the unstoppable chain of events!

Perhapse some do. I've met the 'white liberal guilt' style bunch. But far more common (in my neck of the woods) are people who just want you to know they have a superior set of information or moral guidance. IOW, if USA were uninvolved in putting the smackdown on an evil despotic regime, they would decry the inhumanity of letting the populace suffer. Just rant against the wind, whichever way it blows.

We also have a fair number of honest to gawd complete pacificst around here too. Must be something in the aromatherapy.

Critical self-reflection isn't self-hatred. There must be a middle ground between goose-stepping cult member and cultural self-immolation. Oh, did I just suggest non-binary thinking? Sorry.

Yes, of course there's a middle ground. Many of us start hitting it around 30.

The existence of a middle ground does not negate the existence of endpoints. There are many people who quite obviously do have a profound (and yet somehow shallow at the same time) hatred of Western culture.

Not to nitpick because I do agree completely with the above sentiment.

But can one have a DEEP and profound hate at the same time? I mean, just how deep must one be to hate??
