I have a polar A5, and I thought I would wear it during hte day just to see how many calories I burn off in my normal (non-workout) routine. In the last hour, it has registered exactly 1 calorie.

This can't be true. Does it only register calories when you are in your target range? If so, can you manually change the range so that it will register calories at all times?

You got the Polar model?? It only registers when you are in a polar region being chased by a polar bear. You need the Temperate model!!

Are you wearing the chest belt?

As best as I can remember, my A5 registers calories continuously, regardless of your heart rate... and yes, you can manually change the range if you need to (go into the Settings menu).

I am going to take purely a guess here and say that it would be more expensive to have the monitor effectively measure your heart rate at such a low level. They are designed to measure the higher thresholds. They probably assume you arent going to use the thing unless you are excersing and at least at 100 or so.

Just a guess,

B.

This is the most ridicules thing that I have ever heard. I wear my a5 while mowing the grass, while lifting weights or while just taking a walk around to neighborhood. It NEVER fails to register, no matter what level of activity.

Andy, My wife had a defective unit that did the same thing. We took it back, got a new one and have not had a problem since. Could be a bad transmitter, watch etc. Take yours back or contact Polar. They have great support.

It only increments Kcal when the pulse rate is over 100 (or whatever exact number I can't remember). It's in the manual (instruction sheet) that came with the A5. Read the manual.
