Can anybody please describe these for me please I keep noticing people using the terms but havent got a clue what they are.

The positive part of a lift (also called concentric component) is when the movement of the part of the lift is opposing the direction of the resisting force (a force usually, but not always, having something to do with gravity). The negative part of a lift (also called eccentric component) is when the movement of the part of the lift is in the same direction as the direction of the opposing force.

You mean like a standard dumbbell bench press except one is standing up? As far as the muscles that actually have any apreciable loading are concerned (IOW, not the muscles involved in moving dumbbells to and from your chest, but rather the ones holding the weight at shoulder height), one might call it isometric (or damn close to it).

Damn! I was nicer than one in the Canadian contingent. Is there any medication for this so that I do not end up like Watson?
