I've heard from ppl on elite that the Pls have a brother/sister subculture, as in they will help each other out to the point of even taking off their clothes so a bro can wipe his sweat off. (okay i'm exaggering a tad, but you get my point) This true? It's weird seeing through bodybuilding lenses, because for the most part, I only see egos at play when I go to the gym.

Let me guess. You train at the 24 Hour Fitness on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood?

Hmm is that why all those girls were so helpful?
And no I don't train there. I live more in the suburbs than LA.

The subculture of powerlifting I've experienced has been extremely supportive. Both on the net and in meets. I can't really compare it to bodybuilding, but even at an elite level most p'lifters will go out of there way to help you.
I'm sure there are exceptions, but I haven't experienced any.

I went to my first meet on a lark. It was a way to verify and validate my lifts.
I've gone to two more meets since then because the atmosphere and camaraderie was so cool. When you're lifting, everyone is shouting encouragement and cheering you on... even the guys you're competing against. The powerlifter mindset is more along the lines that everyone is competing against the metal.
Some of the biggest names in powerlifting are on the internet helping people out and will talk to you on the phone and give you pointers if you call them. Hell, Gabrielle is getting training advice from Rickey Dale Crain who was inducted into the York Barbell Hall of Fame; at 165#, he squatted 800#, benched 440#, and deadlifted 716#. Hobman gets advice from everyone from Dr. Mel Siff to Louie Simmons and Dave Tate.
In powerlifting, everyone tries to help everyone else out.
I think that's why the focus of MFW has shifted over the years from bodybuilding to powerlifting. And I think that's why Whit is so bitter. He's just not down with this whole 'helping your brother out' mentality and much more into the catty 'I've got to be numero uno' thing.*

Let's see... One one hand, the top level bodybuilders have personalities like Kalami, Preist, Ray, Wheeler. There are places on the web where some of the pr BBers post. I don't think ive ever seen any of them post anything helpful to a young trainee.. just trash talk. (I've oft found it amusing that guys with fake tans wearing speedos on a stage would trash talk, but I digress)
On the other hand, the top names in powerlifing, Tate, Simmons, Coan, RDC, Miksell, etc, etc, are all not only helpful, but go out of their way to help relative newbies and veterans alike.
The idea that I can call Dave Tate on the phone, and ask him questions about how to get my 405 pound squat (at 220) up, when I've never purchased anything from him, astounds me.
Certainly there are good guys in the bodybuilding game (Skip LaCour comes to mind, as well as Derik Farnsworth), but for most, it's ego.
That 'brotherhood' is one of the things that drew me to PLing.

Back in my track/field days, a sprinter on my team asked me if she could borrow my t-shirt to keep her warm for the trip home from a meet. I said sure. A few days later, I needed it back. She said 'are you sure you really want it back?' I said yes. She rummaged through her locker and pulled it out. She was embarrassed to explain to me that she was sick and had blown her nose into it several times, and hadn't washed it. It was strongly glued together in 3 or 4 places by her caked and dry effluvia, and I had to walk home in it.
The thing I like best about the PL brother/sister subculture is that no powerlifter has ever done this to my shirt. Thanks for asking.

on the other hand, certain pl'ers ARE prone to leaving pooplets in their shorts.
best not to loan your shorts to these people.
due to anatomical realities, i find it highly unlikely that these members of the brother/sister subculture would leave pooplets in your shirt.
if so, maybe they have 'nozzle issues'

Like farting out of their scrotum?
