I've experienced a very unusual thing the last few times I've hit legs in the gym (I've been training seriously for only about 2 months). After hitting legs quite hard, doing leg presses following squats, my quad muscles become extremely weak about 1/2 hrs afterwards

You're overdoing your leg work. Do a less intense workout, more frequently (like twice a week).

I would call it muscle fatigue.

Sounds more like muscle fatigue. We've all been there...

Sure - but the point is this brutal DOMS lasting nearly a week = overdoing it in the workout, surely?

OK, I was answering the question he should have asked - how should I be training? - not the question he actually asked.

There may be a better way...

If it's working for you, then fine... but I think most people find better gains (certainly strength gains) from a workout that can be done twice a week. That doesn't mean go from HIT to power-curtsying with pink rubber weights, it means slightly-less-H IT so that you can do it Monday and Friday (or whatever suits). Simple question: do you think you can lift as much in one super-intense session as in two hard sessions?

I'm hitting each muscle group once a week. I know I can hit 2 muscle groups a lot harder per workout than if I tried hitting 3 or 4.
