I've been using some weight (10pd dumbell, 20pd dumbell) in conjunction with my ab excercise.. I've definitely noticed my abs popping out more, but I'm a bit worried that it will thicken my waist...

does it have this effect? are you guys proponents of using weights during ab workouts?

Yes, use weights on both your abs and obliques. It makes them stronger and thats what you want. I've been using 45lbs on my crunches for about a year, about 3 times per week and my stomach is flat.

Yes I definitely am. Using HST (www.hsnhst.com), I trained abs for growth, and grow they did. At a similar bodyfat level, I added something like 3/4 to an inch to my waist. That can sound scary seeing as we equate an increase in waist size with an increase in fat. But I must say, from a visual perspective, I'm definitely happy with the change. Each ab section, especially obliques, is much more defined. I would say, however, be careful training obliques for growth, as large obliques can detract from the V-taper we aspiring bodybuilders crave.

You have yet to have a post without putting out for HST

What is your angle?

My angle is the following: It's not just a program, but a way of explaining why the things we do in and outside of the weight room work (or don't). Why do three sets? Why do five sets? So far most of the questions I've seen on this forum can be addressed through adoption of HST principles or explained through the knowledge contained on the website. So, in the interests of mutual time-saving, I simply refer people to the website instead of regurgitating the entire program in every one of my posts. Okay? I'm just trying to spread the love, because working and not making progress can be exasperating.
