As the title reads, is there a website out there that you can log onto and compare your maxes with others of your same age, weight, height, etc.? I lift weights at home and I think I am missing the 'comparing yourself to others' that you get at a gym.

If there isn't a website like this, would it be a good idea?

I think it's a good idea. Why not take the bull by the horns and start the website yourself? FWIW, and just as a general rule of thumb, if you can bench 1.5 times your own body weight, and squat 2 times your body weight, you can feel pretty good about your strength. It's kind of a quick measure to separate the men from the boys. I used to be such a man myself, but unfortunately have slipped back into boyhood. I'm seriously back in the gym now though and working my way back up.

Regards,

Not that I'm aware of, but why? What would you gain by comparing yourself to others? If you eat right, lift right, sleep right, and live right, it shouldn't matter what others are up to.

I just got back in the gym after 3 years recovering from shoulder surgery, but I could care less about what other people can 'max'! Hell, I couldn't tell you what my max is on anything.

I follow these steps:

1)I lift heavy. 2)If it gets light, I add weight. 3)Repeat.

The only thing you should be comparing yourself to is you. More specifically, your last workout or two. Focus on constant improvement. When you plateau, then come back and ask for advice. Don't worry about anyone else. I can't be the only one, but I know that I lift for me and me only.

It doesn't take age or height into account, only weight. I was *very* depressed when I saw it; after several months of regular weight training, I don't think I could manage even 'fair' for any exercise in my weight category (heavyweight) except maybe the BB curl and DB press. It's hard to say for sure, however, as I never try for 1RM's.

Yeah yeah yeah, blah blah blah. It's still nice to know how we compare to others.

Back in the late 40's, there used to be a guy who posted here named Bryce. He put together a web page along those lines at http://b_movie.tripod.com/hwgdami.htm

Plus, you get a complimentary popup when you check it out.
