I'm having my wisdom tooth taken out this week and wont be able to eat any solid food now. I've just started to eat 6 meals a day to gain weight! I'm assuming i'l have to drink my calories for a week? Will I even be able to work out? Or I'll be too much in pain to do anything?

Look, just relax, first of all. In the overall scheme of things, a week off training or eating right won't make any difference longterm. Eat what you can, drink what you can, workout if you can, but if you can't, don't worry about it.

If your experience is anything like mine, you'll be in too much pain and/or too stoned on meds to care about anything. You may also resemble a chipmunk and not feel like leaving the house. If you do feel like eating, protein shakes are one good possibility. Throw in some ice cream and peanut butter for the calories. Anything you put in a blender you can eat, so get creative.

And remember that in the grand scheme of things, a week is nothing. Let yourself recover and don't worry about it.

You shouldn't have major pain after an extraction. The doctor will most likely give you a prescription for something for pain, but you'll feel a little uncomfortable the first day. She/he might advise using an ice pack off and on to prevent swelling; this will also help with discomfort. And I'm sure the doctor won't want you to lift for a couple of days, lest you restart the bleeding at the extraction site. (This is not a good thing at all, as it prevents proper healing.) Ask the doctor when you can lift again and do what she/he says.

And it will probably only be the first day that you don't want much solid food. After that, you can phase back into eating solid foods, starting with things that don't take too much chewing (e.g., eat tuna fish rather than a steak). Eggs are a great source of protein that you can eat even the first day. You'll just want to chew mostly on the other side for a few days.

I had a wisdom tooth extracted last year. I worked out early that morning so as not to miss that day's workout. I was hungry afterward, and as soon as I got home from the dentist I made a batch of scrambled eggs with some shredded cheese melted in, and ate them with no problem. I think by the next day I was eating most things I wanted. I don't recall how long my dentist told me to take off from lifting

Reminds me of a stunt I pulled off in my evil youth.

For some reason I knew several female friends who were getting all four wisdom teeth removed at one time within a year of one another. I started taking pictures of them with the chipmunck swollen face. I then made up a number of cards and photo montages of these chipmunck faces.

They never forgave me.

Lee Michaels I just couldn't help myself.

speaking of working out while medicated.

i saw a guy surf in panama after taking acid.

it was not a successful 'ride', dood.

he did get close and personal with the reef.

and took some of it with him, and left some of himself on it.

Maybe I had a good dentist, but I had all four wisdom teeth removed (two impacted) several years ago and was eating a sandwich on the 2nd day. I had almost no pain (I only took one pain pill - the one they made me take before I left the office). The only thing you have to watch out for is 'dry socket' - I've heard that's pretty painful.

I'd avoid working out for one reason only: The increase in blood pressure fromt he strain can blow the stitches in your mouth... and that's awkward to live with and a mess to clean up.
